UofT oUTreach Day

Today’s day of outreach was great. There was a lot of energy from both the volunteers and the public. Despite a few people who were very jaded wit regards to poverty issues, we really reached a lot of people. Many people were not aware of how dire the child poverty situation is and once they learned about the issues surrounding child poverty in Toronto, they were eager to sign.
Amanda

I think what really hit me today was how little it takes to actually make a difference, both in terms of volunteering for this event, and in terms of the people who stopped to sign the banner. It gives me a sense of hope that so many people actually signed the banner, even if a lot of them didn’t want to get involved. I think poverty can be eradicated- it just has to start somewhere, and this is one of the ways we can start it.
Carol

With marker and message in hand we together took a stand. Asking the people of the city to open their hearts and open their minds. Our work here is not done however, I know now that the only way is to work together. They are our children and thus, our future. End Child Poverty Now!
Antonietta

I will never again believe that something as simple as a signature is meaningless or that it takes grand gestures to make a point. I will listen when I hear someone take a stand and not walk on by because it’s easier to ignore the speaker. Because of the what I have learned today, I will listen and I will stand up for the smallest of steps toward a greater goal- lets make poverty history!

Today provided a such a wonderful and valuable experience because of full of energy from the oUTreach participants and Campaign 2000 group!

One word and that is hope. This day’s experiences have allowed me to see the dim light that exists within our individualistic world. This dim light represents the potential within every compassionate human being to change our world one random act of kindness at time.
