Facilitator Bio & Workshop Description:
“Jo-Anne Liburd is the Marketing and Communications Manager for Family Service Association of Toronto. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Jo-Anne has more work experience than she’d care to admit in the field of writing, marketing and public relations. She began her career writing and designing direct mail and other marketing pieces for a small financial newsletter firm before moving to the marketing department of Canadian Living Magazine. After three years as manager of marketing for several Southam business magazines, she returned to school to focus on public relations. She has since done PR for an international professional services firm, before fleeing with what was left of her soul to join FSA Toronto. In her spare time she’s has been known to write movie reviews, letters to the editor and crazy MSN messenger names. She also likes to recycle.”

The workshop will cover:
-media relations 101
-what is news
-how to contact the media
-what they look for
-basic principles to remember when dealing with journalists
-tips on controlling the message and the interview
-hands-on camera practice (in relation to the above)
